Windsor Smith’s California home is definitely one of my all time favorite interiors. Every room has a different style, but the all emit the same vibe; relaxed glamour. These photos are from House Beautiful.

I’m devastated at the thought of Valerie Harper, our Rhoda, dealing with this terrible illness. I don’t want her to suffer, and I admire her courage and her realistic approach to this stage in her life. Having gone through my own cancer experience, I know it sucks, but seeing her in the news again has reminded me how much Rhoda influences my work. Rhoda was my first exposure to the world of interior design. I was like, “that’s a job?” She moved to New York and became a decorator, and so did I. She is my inspiration.

Once again Prada is marching to her own drummer. For her spring 2012 campaign, she has chosen to do what can only be described as a critique/homage to American style. Do any of these words resonate with you? Hot Rod, Vegas, martini, Americana, golf, airplanes, 50s, Lilly Pulitzer, movies, route 66, rhinestone cowboy…

Sometimes, we’re asked to pick favorites, a favorite song, a favorite color, a favorite image. My all time favorite inspiration is this photo of the studio Christian Lacroix taken by Arthur Elgort in 1988. It reminds me that beauty is not perfection; it inspires me to allow things to be what they want, and to keep a sense of humor about my life and my work. This image reignited my love of interior design and has been my constant reminder to look for beauty in the unexpected.
